The core function of this unit is to regulate and oversee various aspects of the tourism industry within Tourism Act, Chapter 239. This role encompasses various key responsibilities, which include:

To issue License Travel Agents and Tourist guides and to register Tourist Accommodation Premises;

5

To support Foreign Worker License applications (new/renewal) under Travel Agencies, Tourist Accommodations and Tourist Guides;

5

To compile and update the Licensed Travel Agent, Registered Tourist Accommodation Premises and Licensed Tour Guides inventories regularly;

5

To conduct visits and inspections for new and renewal of Travel Agents;

5

To provide guidance and education to tourism stakeholders on regulatory and requirements and best practices;

5

To conduct awareness to the public on the Tourism Act, Chapter 239;

5

To review / amend the Tourism Act, Chapter 239 for continuous improvement from time to time.

STANDARD Unit

The core function of this unit is focuses on setting and enforcing standards, guidelines and regulations to ensure the quality, safety and sustainability of tourism activities and services. This role encompasses various key responsibilities, which include:

To develop Tourism-related Standards;

5

To ensure the safety of tourists through proper standards of the tourist facilities and services;

5

To ensure compliance of Brunei Tourism Adventure Activities Guideline (BDTAAG) for Tourism Adventure Activities;

5

To audit Brunei Public Toilets Standard (BPTS), General Tourism Sites Assessment (GTSA) and Brunei Darussalam Tourism Adventure Activities Guideline (BDTAAG) for Tourism Adventure Activities;

To audit standard compliance under the jurisdiction of the Tourism Development Department namely ASEAN Green Hotel Standard, ASEAN Homestay Standard, ASEAN Public Toilet Standard, ASEAN SPA Service Standard, ASEAN Clean Tourist City Standard, ASEAN Community-Based Tourism Standard, ASEAN Meeting, Incentive, Conference and Exhibition and ASEAN Sustainable Tourism Awards (ASTA);

To conduct visits and inspection for Tourist Accommodation Premises for new registration to ensure Tourist Accommodation Premises are in accordance with the classifications that have been set for the registration and for renewal of Tourist Accommodation Premises registration;

To organize roadshows / briefings related to Tourism Standards;

5

To support the various committees related to Tourist Standards and facilitate for the nomination of ASEAN Standard Awards for the related local tourism agencies;

5

As the Secretariats for Jawatankuasa Kebersihan Tandas Kerajaan dan Swasta (JKTKS).

COMPETENCY Unit

N

The core function of this unit is responsible for overseeing the development, training and certification of tourism professionals to ensure high standards of professionalism and service quality in the tourism industry. This role encompasses various key responsibilities, which include:

To improve standard quality of professionals in tourism businesses;

To develop training, competencies, curriculum / modules for the hospitality and tourism industry;

5

To undertake continuing research on the development of standards, guidelines and competenciy requirement for hospitality and tourism industry;

5

To organize and coordinate trainings, courses, programs, workshops, seminars in developing the capacity and efficiency of Human Resources in the field of hospitality and tourism with training institutions, Brunei Assocaiation of Hotels (BAH), Association Travel Agents of Brunei (ATAB) and other relevant agencies;

5

To collaborate with educational institution to develop and attract skilled and qualified workforce;

5

To develop, implement, monitor and conduct roadshows for career pathway for hospitality and tourism industry;

5

To monitor and evaluate Tourism Training Institute;

5

To coordinate and align ASEAN Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) on Tourism Professionals, the ASEAN Common Competency Standards with government agencies and stakeholders;

As the Secretariats for the Manpower Industry Steering Committee Working Group (MISC-WG) for the Hospitality and Tourism sector;

5

As the Secretariats for Human Resources and Capacity Development Cluster.

ENFORCEMENT Unit

N

The core function of this unit is to ensure compliance with regulations, laws and policies related to the tourism industry. This role encompasses various key responsibilities, which include:

Monitoring and Enforcing the Tourism Act, Chapter 239;

5

Investigating complaints and reports of violations;

5

Conduct activities of inspections and operations according to the Tourism Act, Chapter 239;;

5

To provide enforcement statistics;

5

To organize briefings / roadshows on the offences under Tourism Act, Chapter 239;

5

To collaborate with other relevant agencies and law enforcement to ensure compliance with the Tourism Act, Chapter 239;

5

To review / amend the procedure, offences under Tourism Act, Chapter 239 for continuous improvement from time to time.
